Trending Halloween Candy

Are you looking to impress the trick-or-treaters this Halloween? We put together a map featuring the candies and Halloween treats that stood out the most, according to Google searches, for each state. When you head to the store around Halloween, print our this map and bring it with you to make sure that you’re filling up those Halloween bags with the favorites in your state.

Which Treats Top The List?

Americans seem to be traditionalists, with candy corn as a standout for the most states, specifically in Montana, North Dakota, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Other classic candies that made the list include Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Kit Kats, and bubble gum. Several states went the wholesome and healthy route, with Ohio searching for apples, and raisins appearing in Maryland and Vermont. Houses in New Mexico are avoiding the sugar all together and going with pencils. Huh?

Is your favorite candy reflected in your state’s result? Check out the map below for the trendiest treat in each state.

Our Methodology

To determine which candy stood out in search volumes for each state, we analyzed Google Search Volumes. To determine the particular winner in each state, we used Google Trends, which gives scores out of 100 for the popularity of a single search term. Some states had more than one candy with a score of 100, and since we could only choose one candy per state, we chose the candy that was more unique (for example, if apples and peanut butter cups were tied for 100, but peanut butter cups were already present in other states, we went with apples for that state).
