Nordstrom Shopping Guide
Nordstrom is an upscale fashion retailer that was founded in Seattle in 1901. Over a century later, the company has expanded from selling only shoes to selling clothing, accessories, cosmetics, and jewelry sales both online and in their Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack retail locations. There are over 118 Nordstrom stores in the U.S. and Canada, as well as 178 Nordstrom Rack locations. The Nordstrom brand offers luxurious clothing and accessories while Nordstrom Rack caters to a more budget-conscious audience. If you’re a fan of Nordstrom or you want to upgrade your wardrobe with Nordstrom’s upscale fashion styles, this shopping guide will help you save money and discover unique shopping opportunities offered by Nordstrom.
Shopping on Nordstrom’s Website
As an upper range fashion retailer, Nordstrom’s website is as sleek and classy as its inventory. You’ll find both Nordstrom branded and designer brand clothing for adults and children alike, whether you’re looking for a new suit for your husband, summery sandals for your shoe collection, or t-shirts and jackets for your growing children. In addition to high-quality clothing and shoes, Nordstrom sells chic jewelry and designer brand handbags from COACH, kate spade new york, Vince Camuto, Michael Kors, and more.
If you’re looking for a scarf, bracelet, or clutch purse to complement your increasingly classy style, then Nordstrom has a wide selection of accessories from well-known brands that will go perfectly with your wardrobe. If you’re more of a bargain hunter but have yet to venture to NordstromRack, then you can also find clearance items and special pricing on Nordstrom clothing and accessories in the sale section on the company’s website. At the top of the homepage, you’ll see the latest promotions and seasonal sales, or you can sign up for Nordstrom’s e-newsletter for the latest updates without having to check their website constantly.
Nordstrom offers so much more than just clothes and accessories. There is also a beauty and fragrance section on Nordstrom.com, where you’ll find makeup, skin care items, hair care products, bath and body lotions and gels, gift sets, and much more. Rest assured; Nordstrom does not skimp on its beauty products. You’ll find familiar brands such as Bobbi Brown, Lancôme, La Mer, and CHANEL throughout the makeup section. The Featured Shops section and Nordstrom’s How-To Videos offer makeup advice, seasonal style guides, and beauty trend articles to help you stay on top of the latest looks and flawlessly apply your makeup for every occasion.
Don’t miss special offers such as the three free samples with purchase (beauty and grooming items only) and free gifts, such as cosmetic bags, lotions, and other skin care freebies with your purchase (depends on which brand you buy from).
Nordstrom Rack is a more budget-friendly version of Nordstrom. Along with 178 brick-and-mortar locations across the United States, Nordstrom Rack has a website separate from Nordstrom. On NordstromRack.com, you’ll find similar branded clothing, shoes, and accessory items for sale, except the prices are cheaper because these items did not widely sell when they first appeared in Nordstrom’s main inventory.
Launched in 2007, HauteLook is a lightning deals website owned by Nordstrom. You have to be a member to shop on HauteLook (don’t worry, it’s free) and you’ll find popular designer items for sale at incredibly low prices (sometimes as much as 75% off of the retail value). These deals don’t last more than 1-3 days usually, so you’ll want to sign up for the e-newsletter to ensure you never miss a great deal on HauteLook.
Nordstrom Credit and Debit Cards
Nordstrom offers three different cards: a Nordstrom retail card, Nordstrom Visa Signature, and Nordstrom Rewards debit card. All three cards are eligible for the Nordstrom Rewards program, in which you can earn 2 points for every $1 spent at Nordstrom.
The Nordstrom retail card can only be used at Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack locations, but it comes with nifty rewards including four different rewards levels, exclusive early access to sales and new arrival items, reimbursement for alteration services, “personal triple point days,” private holiday events in winter, and VIP access to in-store events and specials. Level 1 cardholders are those who spend up to $1,999 per year on their Nordstrom retail card, Level 2 cardholders go up to $4,999, Level 3 cardholders go up to $9,999, and the Level 4 cardholders spend $10,000 per year or more with their Nordstrom card. The scope of your rewards earned with the card depend on what level you’re at, and all levels get a $20 Nordstrom Note the day you apply and spend at least $100. Additionally, you’ll earn a $20 Nordstrom Note for every 2,000 points accrued.
The Nordstrom Visa Signature card comes with the same benefits as the Nordstrom retail card, except you get the added benefit of being able to use the card everywhere else Visa is accepted (you’ll even earn one point for every $1 spent at a non-Nordstrom location). The Nordstrom debit card also has the same benefits as the Nordstrom retail card, but your purchases are immediately paid for with funds drawn from your checking account.
Nordstrom Mobile Apps
Want to shop while you’re on the go? Then don’t miss the free Nordstrom apps available for Apple and Android devices. You can browse, order, and return items while you’re out and about, not to mention the convenient catalog scanning function on the app for iPhones and iPads.

When you checkout on Nordstrom.com, you can either log in to your existing Nordstrom account (perfect for Nordstrom credit and debit cardholders to earn more rewards) or check out as a guest. Promo codes are applied on the payment page, and you can pay with a major credit card, Nordstrom credit card, or Nordstrom gift card.
