Kohl's Shopping Guide
Kohl’s Corporation opened its first department store in Milwaukee in 1962. Since then, the company has expanded to over 1,100 stores across 49 U.S. states. Their long-term motto used to be “Expect Great Things,” but as of 2014, their new motto has been “Find Your Yes.” Whether you’re new to Kohl’s, or you’re a seasoned Kohl’s aficionado, this store guide will help you discover some of the many ways to save with Kohl’s both in-store and online.
Shopping on Kohls.com
Kohl’s is geared towards the middle-class shopper: someone who can afford nicer clothes without getting into the pricey designer brand territory. The stores and website offer clothing for men, women, juniors, and children, as well as shoes. Whether you’re looking for new swim trunks for your husband or fitness clothing to complement your new gym membership, there are different styles, sizes, and purposes of clothing available for everyone. Kohl’s also has a large selection of handbags and jewelry both online and in retail locations to accentuate your growing Kohl’s wardrobe.
Kohl’s also has a home goods department, where you’ll find everything you need for your bedroom from brands like LC Lauren Conrad and INK+IVY, home décor items for any room that might need an upgrade in your home, kitchen appliances and dining items, as well as living room and patio furniture.
When you shop on Kohls.com, you’ll find their latest promotions and clearance selections featured in banners at the top of their homepage, and if you’re looking for something more specific, you can just enter it into the search bar at the top of the page.
Exclusive Online Clearances
There are several ways to save money on Kohl’s clothing and accessories, especially in their clearance department. Kohl’s website has a section called “Today’s Deals” for the latest discounted items, as well as the general clearance section and occasional, online-only Gold Star Final Clearance bargains for enormous discounts on clothing, shoes, handbags, and other accessories.
Kohl’s offers online doorbusters on a seasonal basis, particularly at the end of spring, end of summer, and during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. You can score great deals on new appliances for your kitchen or new additions for your wardrobe for next season (since they’re usually clearing out the previous season’s clothing to make room for new weather-appropriate clothes).
Kohl’s Cash Program
Kohl’s frequently offers its Kohl’s Cash promotion throughout the year. During these periods, you can earn $10 in Kohl’s Cash – which functions as a $10 Kohl’s gift card – for every $50 you spend with Kohl’s. So a $50 purchase will earn you $10 Kohl’s Cash, a $100 purchase will earn you $20 in Kohl’s Cash, and so on.
If you make an online purchase, your Kohl’s Cash will be automatically emailed to you can use it for your next purchase. When you want to redeem your Kohl’s Cash – be sure to use it during the redemption period listed on the coupon – all you have to do is enter a 15-digit number and 4-digit PIN code at checkout on Kohls.com. This promotion is for limited times during the year, but it is open to everyone, even folks without Kohl’s Charge cards.
Kohl’s Charge Card
Kohl’s has a credit card called the Kohl’s Charge card, which can only be used at Kohl’s department stores and on Kohls.com. When you apply and get approved, you will save an extra 20% on your first Kohl’s purchase, as well as an additional 15% off coupon when your card arrives in the mail. After that, you’ll receive discounted promo codes in the mail on a monthly basis, which will help you save between 15-30% on your Kohl’s purchases. If you spend more than $600 on your Kohl’s Charge in a single year, you’ll be upgraded to “Most Valued Customer” and get an extra six discount codes and coupons each year.
The APR on this card is at bit high, and it has limited use beyond shopping in a Kohl’s store or on their website. The Credit Card Forum recommends getting a Kohl’s Charge card for the coupon benefits but using a more rewarding credit card to make actual purchases at Kohl’s because there is no other incentive to use the card beyond simply having it.
Yes2You Rewards Program
The Yes2You program is a new program offered by Kohl’s, and the motto is “Save, Share & Surprise.” It’s free to join, and you’ll earn 1 point for every dollar spent in Kohl’s stores or on Kohls.com, no matter which payment method you use. When you rack up 100 points, you’ll get a $5 reward to spend while shopping at Kohl’s. Additional bonuses include eight savings offers per year, a special birthday gift, bonus point earning opportunities, and a few other surprises. The Yes2You program runs exclusively through the Kohl’s app, which is available through the App Store or Google Play .

Kohl’s hosts a few contests per year through its social media channels, each with their unique twist and prizes. For instance, for Kohl’s tenth anniversary in 2010, the company gave away $10 million to 20 schools across the country (winners were decided based on votes from social media). More recently, Kohl’s hosted a “Frozen Sing Your Heart Out Contest” in which the best rendition of “Let It Go” shared on YouTube won a spot on a Kohl’s commercial. Other contests include surveys to win Kohl’s gift cards, and other shopping spree sweepstakes promoted primarily over social media. The best way to increase your chances of winning is by following Kohl’s social media pages so you can stay updated on all their contests.
