Home Depot Shopping Guide
About Home Depot
The Home Depot (usually just called “Home Depot” by most people), was founded in 1978 in Georgia, U.S.A. Since then, it has expanded to over 2,200 stores across 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, all 10 Canadian provinces, and Mexico. Their website offers most of their in-store items, with free shipping deals occasionally offered to help you cut down on your home improvement costs.
Whether you’re embarking on a complete home makeover or you only want a quick fix for a room in your home or new additions to your garden, Home Depot is a one-stop shop for all your home improvement needs.
Shopping Online with Home Depot
Home Depot has millions of items available on their website in every home improvement, construction, and gardening category you can imagine. You can easily shop by category on the left-hand side of the Home Depot homepage, or you can choose to search by item or model number in the search bar.
Specials and Offers
Looking for a great deal on tools, home furnishings, appliances, or gardening supplies? If so, you won’t want to miss Home Depot’s specials and offers page on their website. On that page, you’ll find discounts between 10-50% across several categories. According to Home Depot’s website, you can save as much as $800 instantly on some major appliances and other deals include special upgrades on Home Depot installation services or free shipping on grills or power equipment.
You’ll also discover deals on overstock items – playground sets, dining tables, patio furniture, and more – as well as rebate items on select brands sold at your local Home Depot. Don’t forget to check for the ‘Special Buy of the Day’, where you’ll find massive discounts on one select item for 24 hours (then the deal goes away, so act fast).
The Pro Xtra Program
Need help with an installation project? Or do you want to purchase a large quantity of the same items and hope to qualify for bulk pricing? If you’re looking for any number of professional handiwork services, then Home Depot’s Pro Xtra program was made just for you. It’s free to join, and as a member, you’ll get access to sweet benefits. Benefits include 20% off paints, stains and primers, 7-day-a-week job site delivery, dedicated support for Pro members, product sourcing with bulk quantity discounts, and more.
The Pro Xtra program also gives you access to nationwide tool and truck rental centers, where you’ll have access to high-quality power tools and commercial grade trucks at favorable prices for construction and home improvement projects of all sizes.
Consumer and Commercial Credit Cards
Home Depot has four different store credit cards available: a consumer credit card, a project loan card, a revolving charge card, and a commercial credit card.
The consumer credit card from Home Depot gives you access to special financing on orders over $299, up to 24 months to pay off items during special promotional periods, and one year of hassle-free returns. It’s perfect for individual homeowners working on upgrades and repairs, or small-time handymen who are just getting started. The APR is a bit high on this store card, however, which makes it a less favorable option compared to other rewards credit cards for folks who don’t shop at Home Depot all the time.
The Project Loan card, on the other hand, is a MasterCard that comes with a loan of up to $40,000 based on your credit approval. You get to purchase everything you need for a remodeling job or other large home projects within six months then pay off your loan in the next 84 months.
On the commercial side of Home Depot’s credit center, you have the revolving charge card, which offers greater flexibility of lower monthly payments, no annual fee, and the ability to authorize your employees to make purchases with the card. The commercial account card requires you to pay the amount in full each month. However, you can pay by invoice method and view detailed reports of your employee’s spending on the company card. Both commercial cards get you access to fuel discounts, the Pro Xtra program, and a full year to make returns on items purchased on HomeDepot.com or in Home Depot stores.
Checking Out At HomeDepot.com
When you add an item to your cart on HomeDepot.com, you have the option of selecting in-store pickup (they’ll list stores in your zip code where the product is in stock) or shipping to your home or office. If you choose the latter option, you’ll be provided with an estimated delivery date, along with shipping costs. Sales tax is calculated on the payment page, but before you reach that point, you can apply a promotional code to your order. Home Depot strongly points out that promotional codes are case sensitive. Once you apply your code, you can either checkout as a guest or login to your existing account. Checking out with PayPal is also an option if you’d prefer a more expedited checkout method.
Home Depot accepts many forms of payment, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, and the Home Depot Credit Card. Financing is available on select items, so be sure to be aware of your options before finalizing your payment.
Home Depot’s Shipping and Returns Policies
Home Depot offers several different shipping options, including Cost Saver (for items less than 1lb.) and expedited or express shipping for 1-2 day delivery on some smaller items. Deliveries to Hawaii and Alaska take an additional 2-5 days. Individual deliveries (large items requiring installation, bulk items, etc.) require an appointment for delivery. You can also choose to order online and pick up the item in a store.
When it comes to returning online items, you can send them back within 90 days with a receipt in most cases. You can return in-store or via mail with the return label included in the original packaging.
Home Depot Mobile Apps
Are you looking for a home improvement or tool shopping app to use on the go? What a novel idea. Thanks to the Home Depot smartphone apps for Android and Apple platforms, you have access to millions of products for sale in the palm of your hand. You can even make side-by-side product comparisons and search for products by an image or brand name, as well as read customer reviews to see which tool is right for the job you’re working on. This app is perfect for job sites when you may not have immediate access to a computer. If you have any questions, the app has an incredibly useful expert chat feature where you can talk to a Home Depot representative and get all the information you need.
Customer Service & Social Media
If you have any questions while you’re shopping, or if you have a question about an order, you can contact Home Depot’s customer service department at 1-800-466-3337 every day of the week from 6 am to 2 am. You can also contact customer service through the email form on Home Depot’s website.
