12 Uber Eats Hacks to Pay Less on Delivery

The biggest savings on Uber Eats come from Uber One, which costs $9.99 a month and drops the delivery fee on eligible orders over the minimum subtotal, from the offers in the app's Deals section, and from choosing pickup when you can. Below are the tips that still work, updated for how Uber Eats runs today.

Check Promotions Before You Check Out

Get Uber One If You Order Often

Uber Eats Pass is now Uber One, which costs $9.99 a month and covers both Uber Eats and rides. Members get a $0 delivery fee and reduced service fees on eligible orders over the minimum subtotal, up to 10% off eligible orders, and 5% back in Uber One credits on rides. Eligible first-time members can try it free for four weeks.

Taxes and other fees don't count toward the order minimum, and the $0 delivery fee applies to standard delivery within at least 3 miles, so look for the Uber One icon on the stores you use most.

Pay With Uber Cash

Uber Cash is a prepaid balance in your Uber account, loaded from Uber gift cards or refunds, and it pays for Uber Eats orders as well as rides. Some credit cards, including the American Express Platinum and Gold cards, add Uber Cash every month, and retailers occasionally sell Uber gift cards at a discount.

Choosing Pickup at checkout removes the delivery fee and the courier tip, and Uber One's discount of up to 10% applies to eligible pickup orders too. If the restaurant is on your way home, it is the simplest saving in the app.

Split Group Orders

With a group order, the host shares a link and everyone adds their own items from their phone. The host can pay for everything or split the bill so each person pays for what they added. Combining several meals into one order also makes the Uber One minimum easier to reach.

Compare the Final Total

Uber Rewards, the old points program, ended in 2022, so ignore advice about earning points per dollar on Uber Eats. What matters now is the checkout screen, which lists the delivery fee, service fee and any small order fee separately. Compare that total with the pickup price before you pay.

Schedule Orders Ahead

You can choose a later delivery or pickup time at checkout instead of ordering at the last minute. For parties and work lunches, scheduling gives you time to compare restaurants and deals first.

Track Your Order and Report Problems

The app shows your order's progress and the courier's location. If an item is missing or wrong, report it from your order history in the app as soon as the food arrives, since Uber handles refunds and credits for order problems there.
